Vision / Mission / Goals

Brainwave Trust is a registered Charitable Trust, formed in 1999 by a group of paediatricians, doctors, educationalists and other business professionals following a visit by Professor Bruce Perry, a leading U.S. neuroscientist, doctor and researcher in the field of child abuse and neglect.

The information he shared on how a baby's brain develops and the impact of early experiences, good or bad, on the brain in the first three years, was seen as vital knowledge for all those involved with children – hence Brainwave Trust was formed.

In a nutshell, a baby’s brain is not fully developed at birth – most of the brain cells are not connected to each other. The rapid connecting up which continues after birth is very much influenced by what the baby experiences: a warm loving environment or harm and neglect. Neuroscientists working in the field of infant brain development have clinically proven that early experiences have a far more decisive and lasting role than was ever previously imagined. The effect of these experiences can become permanent and it is critical that in the first three years of a child’s life they are given the best start possible.

Brainwave's aim is to spread this information to all parents, caregivers, nurses, doctors - everyone involved with babies and young children.

What we currently do in the way of marketing

Bi-annual newsletters, marketing for annual conferences.

Message to Students / how you can help us

Perhaps the dearth of information in the above box spells it all out. With all the publications Brainwave has, the public profile is very misleading. We have three p/t staff and the support of a committed, voluntary board to operate a national organisation whose message reaches in excess of 40,000 people a year.

We could do so much better and a digital solution to some of our challenges could go a long way to providing a solution.
