StarJamwww.starjam.orgVision / Mission / GoalsStarJam is an organisation which creates opportunities for young people with disabilities to experience joy in their hearts and the belief that anything is possible. The young people, known as Jammers, realize this through participating in unique kinds of performance activities and stage productions.Since its inception in November 2002, StarJam has produced 7 major shows and performed at more than a dozen special performances for conferences and events. When launched there were 12 Jammers involved. Five years later, more than 350 young people with disabilities have been participating in StarJam. StarJam is a registered charitable trust governed by a Board of Trustees who meet bi-monthly. What we currently do in the way of marketingWe have not done any advertising as such but have gained some great media coverage on TV1, especially through the Close Up programmeMessage to Students / how you can help usWe have a truckload of great stories, and miles of wonderful and exclusive footage of our "Jammers" (young people with disabilities)interview celebrities, eg girl with Down Syndrome interviewing Tom Cruise. Celebrities who have been involved also include Danny DeVito, John McEnroe, Neil Finn, Peter Jackson, Lucy Lawless, Julie Andrew.Please have a look at this link. There is massive discrimination against people with disabilities although few will admit it. This is our greatest challenge in promoting the amazing, inspiring, motivating things our children are doing. Our communities are hungry for this kind of inspiration. |
